Vancouver Tamilians Society (VTS) is a registered non-profit community organization in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, dedicated to promoting Tamil culture, language, traditions, and community unity.

Vancouver Tamilians Society provides a cultural and social platform that connects individuals and families through inclusive, family-friendly events and community initiatives. The society plays an active role in preserving Tamil heritage while encouraging participation from all age groups, especially youth.

Founder & President – Background

Vancouver Tamilians Society was brought to life by Sowmya, who continues to lead as Founder and President. The idea was sparked in the summer of 2022, when her mother, Pushpa, shared a heartfelt dream of uniting Tamil families in Canada to celebrate their culture and traditions. Inspired by this vision, Sowmya turned the dream into reality in November 2023, establishing a vibrant community platform for connection, celebration, and togetherness.

The society serves Tamilians living across the Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley regions, including:

Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, Delta, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Langley City, Township of Langley, White Rock, North Vancouver (City & District), West Vancouver, Abbotsford, Mission, and Chilliwack.

Our Mission & Vision

At Vancouver Tamilians Society, our mission is to bring families together for Indian festivals and celebrations, promote Tamil culture and traditions, and strengthen community bonds among Tamilians across Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.


Our vision is to build a connected, inclusive, and vibrant Tamil community that preserves its cultural heritage, supports future generations, and contributes positively to Canada’s multicultural society.

Future Goals

As the society continues to grow, Vancouver Tamilians Society aims to expand its community initiatives in a meaningful and sustainable way. Our future goals include:

  • Tamil Language Classes for Children, to help younger generations learn and stay connected to the Tamil language and culture.

  • Establishing a Community Center, which is the long-term goal of the society, to serve as a shared space for cultural, educational, and community activities.


VTS Puthandu Magazine

The VTS Puthandu Magazine 2025 highlights the contributions of our sponsors, artists, and community members, showcasing their talents and support for the society. The magazine reflects the vibrant creativity and collaboration within the Vancouver Tamil community.
